Hot Rod of Rainford

Saturday 22nd February 2025 1:45pm – 2:30pm

Hot Club of Rainford

Paul Budgen (rhythm guitar), Ed Pryce (melody guitar),

Billy Price (melody guitar), Rae Owens (double bass).

Background

The band name “The Hot Club of Rainford” is a direct reference to the 1920’s band “The Hot Club of France” formed, by gypsy guitar player Django Reinhardt. This was a “string” band featuring guitars, violin and double bass, playing swing music in the style of Gypsy/Manouche.

The Hot Club of Rainford was formed by a group of musicians who attend a monthly meeting of the Beaufort Gypsy Jazz Club in Rainford, St Helens. Some members had played this style before, but for others it was a new adventure!

Programme

The programme is very relaxed and loose and will include a variety of tempos, swing, bossa, waltz and ballads and will also feature:

Oh Lady Be Good
I’ll See You in my Dreams
Bossa Dorado
Swing 42
Bistro Farda
Minor Swing
Coquette
All of Me.

In true Jazz Concert fashion – this is open to being revised on the day, depending on the mood!

Next week’s concert – Pip Clarke (violin) and Havilland Willshire (piano)
